What ChatGPT can do for your job search
ChatGPT is good at the writing side of a job search: tailoring resumes, drafting cover notes and running mock interviews. On its own, it can't tell you which jobs are open today.
This guide covers both halves:

Part 1: ChatGPT prompts for job search
Copy these into ChatGPT and fill in the brackets. They work on every plan.
Figure out what to target

With HuntYourTribe connected, ChatGPT can search live jobs by city, role, skills, seniority and work mode, and read the full description of any job. No HuntYourTribe account or token is needed.
You'll need: a ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP servers. Availability varies by plan and workspace, so check your settings if you don't see the option below.
Add the server
- On chatgpt.com, open Plugins.
- Select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter the server URL:
https://api.huntyourtribe.com/mcp - Name it HuntYourTribe.
- Under Authentication, choose No authentication.
- Select Create as a plugin, then install it.
ChatGPT connects and lists HuntYourTribe's tools. Searching and reading job details work right away; saving jobs and your watchlist need a token, which ChatGPT can't send yet.
Don't see Plugins? Some accounts still use the older flow: go to Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode, and add a custom connector with the same URL and No authentication. On Business and Enterprise workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
Use it in a chat
Start a new chat, select + and turn on HuntYourTribe. Then ask:
Find remote React jobs in Bengaluru that need 3 years or less.
Setup steps last checked: 7 November 2026. ChatGPT changes these menus often.
Part 3: A full job search workflow
This takes about 30 minutes, from search to a ready application.
1. Search
Find product manager jobs in Hyderabad. Show title, company, experience needed and the apply link.
When we ran this on 7 November 2026, HuntYourTribe returned 330 matching jobs. The newest included a Technical Product Manager role at GHX (5+ years) and a Product Manager role at Tanla Platforms (8+ years), both posted that week.
2. Narrow it down
Only roles needing 5 years or less, full-time. Group them by company.
3. Read the full job
Open the GHX role and summarise what they actually need.
ChatGPT pulls the complete description, so you see the real requirements, not a snippet.
4. Tailor your application
Paste your resume and use the tailoring and cover note prompts from Part 1. Because the job description is already in the chat, you don't need to paste it again.
5. Prepare
Run a mock interview for this role. Ask 5 questions, one at a time.
6. Repeat for your top 3 to 5 roles
Apply on each company's own careers page, using the apply link ChatGPT gave you.
Want to save and track jobs?
ChatGPT can search HuntYourTribe but can't save jobs to your account or read your watchlist yet. Those features need a token sent in a request header, and ChatGPT's custom MCP setup has no field for one.

Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, accepts your HuntYourTribe token, so it can search, save jobs and read your watchlist.
1. Create your token
Sign in to HuntYourTribe, open the MCP page in your account and click Create token. You'll see it only once, so copy it straight into step 3.
2. Add HuntYourTribe to Codex
Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:

Add this to your shell profile (for example ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc), so the token stays out of the config file:

4. Check it works
Ask Codex: "Find remote product designer jobs and save the best match." The job should appear in Track jobs on HuntYourTribe.

FAQ
Can ChatGPT find jobs on its own? Not reliably. Without a connection to live listings, it may suggest roles that have closed or don't exist. Connecting HuntYourTribe gives it real, current jobs with apply links.
Does this work on the free ChatGPT plan? The prompts in Part 1 do. Connecting HuntYourTribe needs a plan that supports custom MCP servers.
Is HuntYourTribe free? Yes. Searching is free and needs no account. The free plan allows 20 searches an hour; the paid plan allows 100.
Which jobs are included? 15k+ roles from startups and SMBs across India, plus some US roles, indexed directly from company career pages. Nothing older than 60 days.
Is ChatGPT or Claude better for job search? Both handle the writing well. With HuntYourTribe, Claude can also save jobs and check your watchlist, while ChatGPT is search only for now. If you prefer OpenAI's tools, Codex gets full access with your token.
Is it safe to paste my resume into ChatGPT? Remove your phone number, address and anything you wouldn't post publicly. HuntYourTribe never sees your resume; it only receives your search filters.
